Louis Tillett performs his "Torched Songs"

Picture
What is "Torched Songs" about? Following the apartment fire in October 2018, still an unresolved case of Arson, Louis has been steadily recovering and restoring himself and his music. He has re-released The Ugly Truth on Vinyl, and now the classic Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell on CD. However, he did lose the majority of his CD and Vinyl stock in this fire...and has been planning to do a tour, and possibly an album, with Torched Songs in the title...as a reference to his burned music. And the time is nigh.

In 2020, he performed two nights at the Premier Jazz Club - The Camelot Lounge - just as severe Covid restrictions came into place. Since then he has awaited the opportunity to perform for those who couldn't make it to those nights, due to Health concerns.

On November 22, 2020 Louis was invited to play an Impromptu performance at this same venue, as part of the "Great Southern Nights" ARIA Initiative, to boost Live Music attendance in Australia.

The Camelot Lounge have been practicing Covid Safe Protocols and have once again invited Louis to return, in January 2021.

See the poster attached for details. The ticketing link is here: Torched Songs at the Camelot Lounge.

EGO TRIPPING AT THE GATES OF HELL (REISSUED on CD) out NOW!

Louis Tillett's Breakthrough Album of 1987 has returned!

By Popular Request (over some 33 years)
Louis Tillett has decided to REISSUE the album that shook up the Underground Music world so many years ago.

The title of the Album even became a part of the Vernacular from its inception. And in case you are wondering...it was indeed Louis who coined the phrase.

The expression "Ego Tripping at The Gates of Hell" has been "borrowed" for everything from TV Episode names, Podcasts, and even sampled in other Underground Music.

The Flaming Lips paid homage to Louis, naming their US Number One Album "Ego Tripping at The Gates of Hell", after having used it as a song title on their previous album. (And YES, we have confirmation that Warren is a genuine fan of Louis' music!)

Louis has teamed up with WOW Music to release
Ego Tripping at The Gates of Hell on CD, with updated liner notes and improved Graphics. We would like to acknowledge not only WOW MUSIC for their incredible work, but also ART AND SOUL, for their Graphic Design prowess in taking the original Hand-Painted Artwork and painstakingly restoring and updating it. So it looks better than the original!

You can find AUTOGRAPHED copies, unsigned copies, and related Merchandise at the link below.

Louis brings the core of his band The Art of Darkness to light in a new and exciting combo, as we premiere the LT3, and it’s combined experience of 100 years of live playing, right here in Marrickville. This is something you are unlikely to see on a regular basis.
Louis, with his trademark baritone vocals and blues/rock piano style, combines with John Maddox’ unique virtuosity on Bass and Colin Watson’s thoroughbred Guitar expertise and feel, to bring Louis’ repertoire into a dangerous new place. You may remember Louis from his dozen “solo” albums and pioneering improv ensembles like Paris Green, or his thunderous big bands, such as The Aspersion Caste. He has also been a featured pianist on recordings of such legendary Australian acts as Died Pretty, Beasts of Bourbon, Laughing Clowns, and Tex, Don & Charlie, and many others. In International circuits he is billed as the Rockpoet of The Night, and he is held in the same high esteem and written and filmed in the same publications and TV specials as his peers John Cale, Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave and Tom Waits. UK Rolling Stone called him The Dark Giant.
He rarely plays in Australia, preferring to “ride on the tide and the wings of the wind”, as so much of his music alludes to, him being a full time sailor. After more than 2 years since The Art of Darkness last played, which filled The Factory Theatre in 2017 and 2015, this night will present a rare opportunity to catch Louis in an intimate and dynamic environment, where, keeping the band small and tight, each performance takes on it’s own life and direction, leaving all three players to leave the script, to allow them to take the music where it needs to go at that particular time. Louis Tillett, as a musician and a bandleader is synonymous with the Sydney Live and Underground music of the 80s, 90s and 00s. Come and find out why he is often touted as a National Living Treasure.

House Fire....

Louis Tillett has major house fire...

A Suspected Arson Attack is responsible for destroying a large part of Louis' personal effects and some Memorabilia. However, thankfully many important items were recovered and will now be stored safely with the National Film and Sound Archives until such a time as they can be correctly catalogued. They will be in their safe keeping and all source material will eventually be donated as planned.

Thankfully, Louis was not home when this major fire broke out. So he is safe and well and recovering from the shock of this very personal and traumatic event.

There has never been a better time to become a PATRON!

Come and join my journey on Patreon

Picture
So many of you were supportive, receptive and generous enough to allow me to achieve many of my goals in recent years, by enabling me to return to playing Live Music again, and launching
"The Art Of Darkness"
.

Further to this you helped me to create a
"Living Archive"
on behalf of the National Film and Sound Archives, which became
www.louistillettmusic.com

After some time it was decided that it was necessary for me to set up the
SHOP
to facilitate future recordings and to work in conjunction
with other platforms such as
Spotify, iTunes and others
where all of my back catalog has now been made available.

This next phase
of my personal and musical journey requires for me to apply myself
wholly and solely to the purpose of creating
NEW MUSIC

And having been granted the reward and responsibility of commanding a genuine sea-going vessel,
I am now called to return to the place I love most...
the Ocean
which has long been the place I have
derived the most inspiration from.

Now that my Music is available widely and freely to anyone who seeks it out,
I am able to free myself and embark on a journey, both physically, and metaphorically,
over the horizon.

And I would like to invite you to join me.

Everyone who becomes a PATRON
will have exclusive access to everything to be shared on this voyage.

This means
Poetry, Journals, Video Journals, Music sketches, Film Footage
and any other material that forms a part of the storytelling.
Varying rewards are offered for higher contributions.

But at the end of this journey,
you will all be credited
with the resulting creative works

such as
an album, a doco, an audiobook, a written book,
or anything else that is born.

Most importantly I hope that this story can inspire us all.

Remember - it was only 3 years or so ago that I was destitute and living in a Van.
Now, all things seem possible, thanks to your support,
I feel duty-bound to share this coming artistic endeavour with you,
as the story unfolds.

"A Night At Sea" - Video on Demand

The Documentary - now available to Stream

Louis Tillett is a brilliant musician, a great band leader and a total wildcard. In this classic music documentary the legendary Australian singer-songwriter and keyboardist embarks on an extraordinary concert at the Basement in Sydney and discusses his creative process and episodic mental illness. Featuring performances and candid interviews with collaborators Penny Ikinger, Charlie Owens, Dianne Spence and Don Walker, and interviews with brother John and sister Nina. Surprisingly, Louis is an accomplished sailor, and one evening on the liquid black of Sydney Harbour he confides the connection between the swell of the elemental sea and his own psychological journeys. Louis Tillett is a musician's musician, highly respected yet finding mainstream success elusive, perhaps in part because he paints his own troubles in music.
"He always wears his heart on his sleeve and all the dirty washing comes out" Penny Ikinger
Band: Louis Tillett (vocals and piano), Charlie Owens (guitar), Penny Ikinger (guitar), Jim Dickson (bass), Nick Fisher (drums), Don Walker (Hammond organ), Dianne Spence (saxophone), Stewart ... (trumpet), Anthony Kable (trombone). Stage lighting: Damien Oxley, sound engineering: Chris Mysinski, live music recording: John Bell.
Song list: Sailor's dream, Hold Me, Ancient Song, The Tempest, Life Raft.
Producer: Lisa Nicol. Directors: Lisa Nicol, Anna Craney, Mark Mordue, Carolyn Constantine.
Your purchase helps fund the production and distribution of this documentary - many thanks.
