A Special Guest Post on behalf of Louis Tillett by Rachael Slattery
There are worse things that could happen...but sadly, Louis has reluctantly decided that he will be unable to pursue his other great love..of single-handed sailing. There will be no rope-pulling, or anchor-lifting, or hoisting of sails. It was his only happy place, his best-kept secret...his private love...his private life.
He struggled to keep his car on the road at times...but thankfully..we were able to scrimp enough to pay the low yearly costs of keeping this Top Hat yacht in a little bay in Sydney. And she was paid for by 6 months of hard work...putting on a special Live Music Concert...with The Art Of Darkness. We bought her in mid-Winter, in a "fire sale" in beautiful condition. It blew Louis' mind! And it has brought him some small joy, in many dark times.
So...for the first time ever...Louis could say that Music gave him something back...something else he truly loved.
When he had no place to call a home, he could go and visit, and take her out for a day or two..and just forget....but now...he is unable to row out to visit her. Instead, we have a friend to help us to get out to the boat to show her to potential new owners.
So...here it is...one of those things that is too common in the sailing community...a sale due to ill health/change of circumstances. The UPSIDE is...rather than relentlessly pursue the also strenuous "Van-life" of touring that was planned recently...the proceeds for the sale of his lovely little sailboat, can be put towards a more passive pursuit of Music...in writing and recording.
Although I am the contact for this ad...Louis will be more than happy to field any enquiries that I cannot answer. Please SHARE among your friends, especially the sailors among you! And yes...there will be a complete handover for the buyer. Please know that this is what Louis wants. And at the moment it's all he can do to try and get back to some sort of normality...even while we still have some health issues to address...prior to finding a way to a full recovery. Selling the boat would lighten his load right now! Thanks everyone for your support. And now...here it is...https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/enmore/sail-boats/top-hat-mk-ii-diesel-driven-pocket-cruiser/1167820823?edited=true
The Return To Sender Albums are Now Free to Download
When I was touring a lot in Europe, Normal Records asked for a distinctly different type of album from me. It was to represent the live and acoustic sound of my concerts in Germany, Greece and other parts of Europe. At times, it was in solo form, or with Charlie Owen and other collaborations. There was also one tour with The Aspersion Caste in the early days. So we started with "The Ugly Truth". Following it's success, we moved onto "Midnight Rain", and completed the set with "Life@The Basement" aka "Live @ The Basement".
They were fairly low budget recordings, which was fine, since we were trying to capture a live feel. The final album was entirely Live...at The Basement, of course...and was also filmed as part of the documentary "A Night At Sea" for Round The Outside Productions. It was first screened on ABC TV in 2000 in Australia. Please enjoy these albums, which were once Mail Order only - limited to 2000 copies, through Normal Records, Return To Sender, and Glitterhouse Mail Order. Feel free to leave your comments below, or email me at email@example.com. I am also on Facebook and Twitter @LouisTheTillett. LT
The following Generous Folk are Keeping the Music Free!
It is because of these altruistic people, that I can allow EVERYONE to listen to and download my entire musical catalogue, so I can get on with new projects. And in reality, anything over and above the maintenance costs of the site, go directly towards those new projects...whether that be collaborations, studio time, keeping the Van on the road, and touring and accommodation costs. It is an expensive past-time - making music. So "From Me To You" Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! And for those who cannot afford to donate...please SHARE the website link...and the music...and feel free to leave a comment or contact me anytime.
With the launch of a new album and the unusual format of allowing all music to be downloaded freely, I have found great support, with an average of 1000 unique visitors per week. This is based purely on Word of Mouth. So that's a good sign to me, that the site was something you were all interested in seeking out.
Your continuing donations have allowed this site to have a permanent presence, so that it is self-funded, in effect.
I am happy to report that you have been generous enough to make this experiment work. It's great to be able to boast that this hub is people powered. I am glad that I persisted in this mission to bring you my entire body of work...and trust your good intentions. Please continue to enjoy the music, the pictures, and stories. And I will continue to upload more content, in between musical projects and live concert commitments. You can also find me on Twitter @LouisTheTillett and Facebook. Warmest regards. Louis Tillett PS. Feel free to leave comments here or on the Contact page. I'd love to hear from you.

MUSIC DOWNLOADS ARE WORKING!!
As you will see on the Home Page...there are instructions for Downloading the Music. When the site was launched, there were no issues. But we have found a few people had some issues, while others did not. While we investigate why the Download Arrow, on download files has disappeared for some, please find the alternative option, just as effective, but perhaps more useful to Desktop/Laptop Users, as it requires a Mouse Click Option.
The instructions are as follows..
When you select to Download a track, a window will open and the track will start playing. Every PC/Device is different. If there is no download arrow as shown in the screenshot below, you can still download by right-clicking on it, and choosing Save Audio As.
Please feel free to download as much as you like. I would appreciate some feedback here about what you have downloaded, and your thoughts here. Soon I will have an "Inventory" mechanism in place to monitor what is actually being downloaded. But in any case, I always like to hear from you. Please feel free to leave comments, or to contact me through the contact form. My thanks to Leisa Clements for her patience, and persistence, by finding the above "work-around".
If you are reading this first Journal post, then you are probably one of the very people who supported me in getting the website up and running, through gofundme, or have been asked to become a Test Pilot for the site, or you have been invited as a special guest or maybe you are just one of the first people from Facebook who have heard the news. Regardless of how you have found this page, please do leave a comment and share anything you find interesting or entertaining on Social Media, or by good old "word of mouth". And feel free to give me any feedback about the look, feel, and sound of the site, as candidly as you like.
I have tried to bring as much of my Catalogue and associated content together, in time for the Launch - planned for the end of the second week of September. But I will endeavour to update the site, regularly, with the always inevitable missing credits, and more content, such as original press clippings, photos, music, and other material, as they come to me. My own private collection is substantial, and as yet largely unseen. But so far, what you see here, for instance, in The Vault, are mainly from contributions by you, from Facebook Pages and Groups (where I will continue to correspond from time to time).
I have not yet uploaded the Return To Sender albums, but you can hear songs from them in The Vault, in the 2BOB Interviews. The reason I have held off sharing these 3 albums, is because they were limited editions, and were designed to complement and give context to the Original Studio Recording Albums.
I think that a lot of people have yet to hear all of the Original Albums. And I think it's best to give people time to explore these. And of course, I would like to also draw your attention to To Ride A Dead Pony, which I have been holding on to for just such a special occasion as this launch! I hope you enjoy this Retrospective collection of recordings, representative of my many incarnations, and spanning over 30 years plus. Please refer to the liner notes by John McPharlin to illustrate just why it was created.
It has been a long, and arduous road to get here. But I am satisfied that I have everything in one place, and that I have managed to maintain complete ownership over, not only my copyright, but my publishing, and my own image, which basically means, I can give myself permission to do what I want with my own music, and images. And that's more unusual than it sounds. It means, for instance, that should anyone wish to license any songs for soundtracks or other works, they need only come direct to me to arrange anything. And that could be something as simple as having my permission, and getting the spelling of my name right. Since I am the registered publisher with AMCOS, I am required to keep track of where my music is broadcast or reproduced, as much as possible.
Dolly Parton once said "Who would believe that it costs so much to look this cheap?". But I have tried to make the website as professional and easy to use as possible. I would say "Who could have believed it was so costly to give my music away?" I am grateful beyond words, for everyone who has contributed to crowdfunding to cover the initial costs of getting this up and running.
So please explore to heart's content and let me know what you think. This is your site too!
